I Am The Size Of What I See

Acrylic on wooden board
29cm x 42cm
2017
Available to buy in the Survival Techniques shop

Words from a poem by Fernando Pessoa. Full text:

From my village I see as much of the universe as can be seen
from the earth,
And so my village is as large as any town,
For I am the size of what I see
And not the size of my height . . .

In the cities life is smaller
Than here in my house on top of this hill.
The big buildings of cities lock up the view,
They hide the horizon, pulling our gaze far away from the
open sky.
They make us small, for they take away all the vastness our
eyes can see,
And they make us poor, for our only wealth is seeing.”

Run

Acrylic on wooden board
35cm x 50cm
2017
SOLD
(original painting)

Prints available in the Survival Techniques shop

One of my ultimate Survival Techniques. When fitness and injury allow, a run is one of my best ways out a spiral of low feeling. I can only run small miles these days due to an extensive injury back catalogue, but even the smallest run feels like a triumph.
